Isolation of Alkaloid

ð The aqueous layer is further extracted with an organic solvent like chloroform to remove pigments or other impurities which are soluble in that solvent. Then shake with acid to form a salt of alkaloid in the aqueous layer. The aqueous layer is then treated with ammonia to get freed alkaloid which is separated with organic solvents. After evaporation to dryness residue of alkaloidal extract forms.
